If you have been jumping into Black Ops 7 lately, you have probably noticed something’s different – the classic quick melee from the older Call of Duty games is gone. No more last‑second panic knife when someone’s in your face. Now you’ve actually got to switch to your blade before you can use it, which takes a bit of adjustment. At first it feels like an extra step you don’t have time for in a fight, but the more you play, the more you realise it adds a bit of skill and planning. Whether you are creeping through a single‑player mission, making a flank run in multiplayer, or lining up early‑round kills in Zombies, once you get comfortable with it, the knife becomes a real tool – and mastering that flow can give you an edge, especially if you pair it with smart loadouts or even CoD BO7 Boosting to speed up your progress.

Switching to your knife uses the new weapon wheel system. On controller, you hold the swap button – Triangle on PlayStation, Y on Xbox – and a small wheel pops up. Flick your right stick to the knife icon, let go of the button, and your character stows the gun and pulls out the blade. On PC, hitting 1 swaps to your secondary (if you set the knife there), or you can hold Q to see the same wheel. You will notice you move a touch faster with knife in hand, which is perfect for repositioning or chasing down enemies. It’s not instant like before, so timing matters – swap too late, and you might get caught out.

Once it’s out, you’ve got two main ways to strike. Tap the fire button (R2/RT on console, left mouse on PC) for a quick slash – handy for finishing someone who’s already weak or for tight corner fights. Hold that fire button just a moment and you’ll perform a lunge – your character leaps forward with a strong stab that’s usually a one‑hit kill in multiplayer. It feels amazing when you land it, but whiff and you’re stuck in a short recovery animation where you’re a sitting duck. The trick is knowing when you’ve got the reach and lining it up before you commit.

Don’t treat the knife as some last‑ditch backup. Build your class around it and it becomes deadly. In multiplayer, mix it with perks that boost sprint and cut your footstep noise, and you can slip past opponents before they know what’s happening. In Zombies, the first few rounds are made for knifing – you save ammo and earn more points per kill, letting you open maps faster and get perks earlier. It’s worth running private matches just to drill the swap‑and‑lunge motion until it’s second nature. Pull it off right and you’ll start winning those close‑range fights – and if you want to sharpen your advantage further, you can always buy CoD BO7 Boosting to push your game even further.
